Q&A with Jim Burchell - Senior Sales Account Executive
In celebration of International Men’s Day, we're thrilled to bring you a unique edition of our Employee Spotlight series, focusing on men as role models. This edition celebrates the positive impact our male colleagues have as mentors, leaders, and inspirations, both within our company and beyond. The special edition continues with Jim Burchell, Senior Sales Account Executive. We caught up with Jim to learn more about his experiences leading up to his career to date and hear his thoughts on what he believes men can do to contribute to a more inclusive, supportive environment.
What was your dream job as a child and why?
I wanted to be the catcher for the San Francisco Giants. When I was young, we lived in the Bay Area and my dad would take me to Giants games a few times a year. Much to my wife and daughter’s irritation, I’ve named our pets after Giants players.
Can you share a significant moment in your career that has shaped who you are today?
My time at Omniture was very formative for me in my career. I was responsible for managing our agency relationships. It showed me how to work with agencies and technology partners and how crucial it is in doing enterprise deals.
What advice would you give to your younger self starting in this industry?
Be nice. Be understanding. Listen to what people are saying. Be a resource.
What are some of your go-to activities or hobbies for maintaining mental and physical health?
I enjoy golfing and fly fishing. I try to get on my mountain bike as much as I can.
How do you believe men can contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment?
Men need to listen and understand the different viewpoints. As a girl dad x2, I’ve had many, many years of hearing a female’s point of view.
What book, podcast, or resource has had a major impact on your personal or professional development?
This is a good question. I am a fan of podcasts, reading and listening to Blinkists. I don’t think any one book or podcast has had a major impact on me, but rather from the collective.
